Tendril applied artistic visual effects techniques to enhance the elusive magic of the choreography for this film.
This is a project of San Francisco Dance Film Festival’s Co-Laboratory, in which filmmakers and choreographers are paired together and given one week to make a film. Battle is dark and slightly humorous dance film capturing a modern dance-duel, where the dancers engage in beautiful combat with escalating weaponry. Set within the dark reaches of one woman’s psyche, the two personalities fight for control of one woman’s fractured mind.
“So much of life is lived inside our own heads, in our own worlds. There are internal struggles we face that no one else may ever realize. Battle depicts one of these conflicts. It brings to life one woman’s internal duel, facing off against her own inner demon in a fight to the finish. Through the combination of dance, music, weaponry and special effects, we crafted a surreal dream world in which the struggle manifests itself. And while the film pulls the viewer into her dark world, it manages to capture an element of humor, a flicker of light within the darkness” – Shelly Louis
